One of my favorite quotes is by Harry Emerson Fosdick: “Don’t simply retire from something; have something to retire to.” I like this quote because it reminds me every day why I became a financial planner, and why I continue to love what I do.
I am passionate about helping my clients enjoy a worry-free retirement. And, from decades of experience in the finance industry, I know that a reliable retirement plan is built from a solid investment plan. I first learned this by watching my uncle run his own investment firm as I grew up. I always admired the way he carried himself and the way he could work with both high-end clients and everyday folks within our own family—expertly explaining their personal finances in ways they could best understand. I strive to do the same so my clients can feel confident that they have something to retire to.
My Path to Personal Finance
Though I always admired my uncle’s career path, I earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a Master of Science in Chemistry from Wake Forest University.
But, given my love of personal finance and investing, my uncle encouraged me to pursue a career in finance despite not having a relevant degree. Since I was looking for a new opportunity at the time, I applied to Prudential Securities and scored highly on the Series 7 exam, which tested my knowledge of investments and allowed me to officially work as an advisor.
My Career Today
After five years at Prudential, I went on to become the Associate Vice President of Investments at Wells Fargo Advisors. It was during my time there that I garnered the education, experience, and requirements to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional.
Today, I am a partner, financial advisor, and client portfolio manager at Stratos Wealth Partners, where I help my clients navigate the markets and avoid the financial potholes that can occur during retirement.
Why I Love What I Do
Each day I’m able to help clients achieve their retirement hopes and dreams, giving them something to retire to, rather than just something to retire from.
I strive to give the best advice I can to my clients by staying up to date and informed on all the important factors that could affect their plans—from market updates and investments to taxes and estate planning. Through constant education and professional growth, I’ve found a lot of satisfaction in helping my clients figure out the ideal life they want to live and—more importantly—helping them make it a reality.
